While I was reelected without opposition several weeks ago, today is really the first time I’ve been able to say “Thank You” to the entire community.

In today’s St. Petersburg Times (the Neighborhood Times section) my campaign has published an advertisement thanking District 53 for giving me the honor of serving at least another two years in the Florida House. I continue to be humbled by both the job, and the confidence you’ve shown in me.

I am also proud to note that excess campaign funds have been put to good use. As noted in today’s ad, our campaign donated thousands of dollars to area organizations adversely affected by the current recession and the recent actions of some of my colleagues in the Florida Legislature.

The decision to disburse of funds in this manner is really a continuation of the ‘service’ theme that has been a hallmark of my time in elected office. Monetary donations are easy. Service – giving back – is where the true reward can be found, and it is often what organizations need the most.
