While I was reelected without opposition several weeks ago, today is really the first time I’ve been able to say “Thank You” to the entire community.

In today’s St. Petersburg Times (the Neighborhood Times section) my campaign has published an advertisement thanking District 53 for giving me the honor of serving at least another two years in the Florida House. I continue to be humbled by both the job, and the confidence you’ve shown in me.

I am also proud to note that excess campaign funds have been put to good use. As noted in today’s ad, our campaign donated thousands of dollars to area organizations adversely affected by the current recession and the recent actions of some of my colleagues in the Florida Legislature.

The decision to disburse of funds in this manner is really a continuation of the ‘service’ theme that has been a hallmark of my time in elected office. Monetary donations are easy. Service – giving back – is where the true reward can be found, and it is often what organizations need the most.

Earlier this summer I submitted an op-ed to the St. Petersburg Times, in the hopes of providing readers with a candid assessment of the 2008 legislative session. While it was not printed, you can listen (and watch it) below.

On April 30th, HB 89 (now SB 154) passed the Florida House of Representatives unanimously. Because this bill saves lives, its passage should bring us all tremendous satisfaction and relief. Clarifying and strengthening our crosswalk law was a logical step toward protecting Florida’s pedestrians – whether the family on an evening walk, the senior crossing the road carrying groceries, the child riding a bike, or the blind person being led by a working dog. Help is now on the way.

My pedestrian safety bill (HB 89) is making progress in the Florida House. It has received the full support of the Committee on Infrastructure and the Economic Expansion and Infrastructure Council. Last month, it passed the senate unanimously. House Bill 89 addresses Florida’s growing pedestrian safety crisis by clarifying current crosswalk laws. We are consistently ranked among the most dangerous in the nation in pedestrian fatalities. According to the annual Mean Streets report, Florida cities (with Tampa Bay being the worst) make up three of the five most dangerous communities to walk in. Encouraging walking as an alternative mode of transportation also helps us to address much bigger concerns regarding the environment and personal health. Furthermore, with a large senior population, Florida should be a leader in making our streets safe to cross and therefore protecting our most vulnerable citizens.

Hi, and welcome to my website – your website – Kriseman.com. This site was designed to give greater access to my constituents, to potential voters, and to the community at large, all who deserve a more open and accountable government. This is an important time for our country, our state, and our community. It’s a time when we must be especially concerned about the next generation, and the generation before us, and what we can do to make all of their lives better. That has been my goal since I entered public service nearly a decade ago – to do all I can to make our corner of the world just a little bit better. And so I encourage you to start here. Look around, learn a bit more about me and where I stand on the important issues, check out my voting record, and contact me if you have any questions, comments, or ideas, as your participation is absolutely vital. It’s an honor for me to represent you and I look forward to doing so, in one capacity or another, for a long time. Thanks again for visiting.
